In our awareness campaign regarding the benefits that wine brings to health, in our first approach we showed how it can be beneficial in the fight against obesity. In this edition, the Enovírtua brings an interesting article of how wine can benefit the immune system and prevent various kinds of diseases.
According to researches red wine helps the immune system
We have already written here on the site about researches showing that wine helps combat obesity. Now, a new study reports that one of the components found in red wine can counteract the effects of weight gain.
According to studies, resveratrol may help reverse the symptoms of obesity in the immune system.
The research conducted at the University of Texas revealed that resveratrol can alleviate the effects of a high fat diet does to the immune system. The component is found in all red wines.
Professor Christopher Jolly, head of research, is associated with the Department of Nutrition Sciences at the University of Texas. It explains that “in preclinical studies, resveratrol has been shown to be beneficial in slowing the aging process and to inhibit some of the deleterious effects associated with obesity.”
The study was done on rats and animals divided into two groups. The first group received a diet rich in fat and doses of resveratrol whereas the second did not receive the component in the feeding. The result showed that the rats in the first group gained less weight.
One more benefit of resveratrol
Scientists believe that the substance has a protective effect on the thymus (an organ located above the lungs), preventing its premature aging due to an unbalanced diet. The body is responsible for immune cell response, and the decrease of their activities is what makes older people have more tendencies to infectious diseases.
Wine also helps in weight loss
The research was published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry and suggested that resveratrol can protect against weight gain and neutralize their impact on the immune system. According to Jolly, even when we do not follow a healthy diet, there are things we can consume to protect ourselves from the harmful effects of an unbalanced diet. “Resveratrol is one of them,” says the teacher.
